Georgian winemaker Nugzar Ksovreli and Swiss oenologist Thierry Fontannaz found inspiration in the history and legacy of the winery’s founders, the Konchosvilli family, whose cellars date back to 1737. Here, tradition and innovation come together to create exceptional wines.
Located in the prestigious Kakheti region near the Azerbaijani border, benefit from the region’s rich black shale soils and the cooling influence of the Caucasus Mountains at altitudes over 400 meters. These ideal conditions, along with sustainable and organic practices, produce grapes of the highest quality.
Ilia Estate’s winemakers also owns the well-known Bedoba estate. While the grapes come from different vineyard parcels and are overseen by different oenologists, they embrace a unified approach to winemaking.
Vinifications are made using the ancient system of qvevris, large clay vessels that impart distinctive flavors to the wines, creating a harmonious blend of tradition and modern techniques.
Blend of 70% Rkatsiteli 30% Kisi
Rkatsiteli is partially (60%) fermented (whole bunches) and matured in Qvevri amphora. 10% of the Rkatsiteli is fermented in Qvevri and matured in 225L barrique.
